Ontario- Schools will be shuttered and students are mandated to online classes until January 17, 2022. The ban is set to last until January 21, 2022. Starting January 8, 2022, flights from Australia, Canada, France, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Britain, and the United States are banned. In addition, restaurants can only serve guests of 8 per table and will be forced to close at 11 pm. Sweden announced a work from home mandate when possible. The current curfew is set to last for 14 days. Residents must remain home from the hours of 10 pm to 5 am. Tunisia has announced new curfews in attempt to curb the spread of the current wave. Pools, beaches, and nightclubs remain closed. Hong Kong has also relaxed some coronavirus restrictions, allowing for gyms, cinemas, theme parks, and restaurants to open. Starting in May, Hong Kong will begin allowing non-resident travelers entry for the first time since 2020. This includes lifting the ban on the indoor gathering limit, limiting hours of operation for bars, and quarantine requirements. Iceland has removed all the remaining coronavirus restrictions. Employees who are not customer-facing will not be required to wear a mask. This includes the ease of entry for international travelers, removing limits on group sizes, and allowing for the full return of employees to the workplace. Singapore has decided to lift most of the remaining coronavirus restrictions. Shanghai’s ‘Covid zero policy’ has led to measures that deny people from leaving their building if at least one person has tested positive for coronavirus. Shanghai has entered its fourth week of lockdown – and has begun implementing even stricter measures. Beijing officials have stated that they hope to avoid the same type of lockdowns as Shanghai is experiencing. With the concerns of a fresh lockdown, panic has caused families to begin stockpiling food – leading to massive lines at supermarkets. With a new wave of outbreaks, Beijing has ordered mass testing to be done. The goal is to fully reopen borders for all types of visas in October. Each test must be reported to the Ministry of Health. Tourists must still be fully vaccinated against COVID, submit a negative test before departure, and undergo two self-tests upon arrival, followed by a third five days after arrival. New Zealand opened its borders to travelers from around 60 visa-waiver nations on Monday. It is still necessary to perform a PCR test upon arrival, as well as a rapid test on the seventh day of quarantine. Taiwan has reduced its mandatory quarantine period for incoming travelers from 10 days to 7 days. Businesses do not need to be placed on the “whitelist,” but employees returning to work via public transportation must present a negative COVID test 72 hours in advance. Since April 1, residents in China’s largest city have been confined to their homes. Shanghai has announced that it will end its COVID lockdown for residents in low-risk areas. Even so, most non-US citizens who plan to enter the US must still be vaccinated. Negative COVID tests are no longer required for air travelers entering the United States.
